Organic Acids and Nitrogen Dioxide

Description

Organic acids are measured with a simple diffusive sampler from SKC, the UMEX 200. Simply clip on the collar of a short to measure personal exposure or place it in a strategic position for use as an area monitor. Exposure time can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 7 days being careful not to saturate the sensor. The maximum mass of formic acid that can be absorbed is reported to be 800 microg, so 50 PPM formic acid for 8 h should be seen as the upper limit for this sampler. Similarly, the maximum mass of acetic acid that can be absorbed is 500 microg, so the 25 PPM acetic acid is the maximum you should plan to sample. The longer sampling times (up to 7 days) are intended for the measurement of indoor air quality in settings where formic acid is not being used but being generated through some natural process (oxidation of formaldehyde etc) and is present at PPB levels.
